Divine Mercy Women’s Guild – April 20, 2015
The meeting was called to order by President Michelle Urban
at 6:45, with 15 members present.
In Prayer Advisor Elaine Giacomo’s absence, Lauren Martin
led the members in saying the Parish Prayer.
Ballots for the 2015 Ethel Cavanaugh Award were
passed out and the membership given an opportunity to vote.
There were two corrections made to the Recording Secretary’s
report, which was then accepted.
Corresponding Secretary, Yvonne Murray, reported sending out
two Mass/sympathy cards, a get well card, and a birthday card with $50.00 to
Msgr.Gerry.
Joyce Schmidt reported that Helping Hands had
provided a reception after the Benoit funeral, and that although the reception
after the Madeja funeral was not being held in the parish hall, the Guild was
providing desserts for the reception elsewhere.
Janice McKensie commented that it was nice that we were able to help out
with receptions at home or elsewhere, not just at the church.
Karen Bannister, Treasurer, was not present so there
was no treasurer’s report.
Old Business:
Denise Long spoke about the May Banquet to be held
Monday, May 11th, 2015 at 6pm at Bass Hall. It will be catered by
Roy’s Market. She asked that members
sign up at this meeting, or call or email her to sign up.
Volunteers for the Community Supper in Hancock on
April 23rd, organized by Helen Limina, were confirmed. These
included women to setup from 12-2:00, preparation from 4-5:00, serving from
5:30-6:30, clean up beginning at 6:00, and baking of breads and desserts.
The First Communion Reception on May 3rd
is at 1:00, coordinated by Helen Limina.
She will call those who signed up previously to confirm.
A conflict has occurred with regard to the Baccalaureate
Event scheduled for June 7th. The
Senior Class trip is scheduled for that same weekend, but it was uncertain how
many graduates we have this year and whether they are going on the trip. Lauren
Martin will call to get the list and let Michelle know. Denise Long, coordinator of the event, was
thinking of french toast/sausages/fruit similar to what the Guild did last
year.
The Nominating Committee proposed the following slate
of officers for the 2015-2016 year:
President
– Sue Koziell
Vice
President – Lauren Martin
Recording
Secretary – Grace Hartman
Corresponding
Secretary – Yvonne Murray
Treasurer
– Beth McGurty
Karen Ayers moved, seconded by Janice McKensie, that the
slate be accepted. The motion passed.
The officers will be installed at the May luncheon.
New Business:
The annual Plant Sale coordinated by Jean Frechette
will be held on Saturday May 23rd at the Peterborough Community
Center. Plants can be dropped off beside the church before the sale and will be
moved to the PCC Friday night. Help is
available to dig plants if needed by contacting Jean or Denise. Edna Drasba commented that the Hancock Dump has
many pots for the taking and she and Jean will get together to get them. Jean will email for helpers as time gets
closer as volunteers are needed to move plants Friday night, and to set up and
sell during the day on Saturday. Denise
moved, seconded by Karen, that money brought in by the sale be used for the
kitchen in the new church. It was
passed.
The wording for the Constitution/By-law change to
facilitate revamping the Guild’s meeting schedule as discussed at the February
meeting was presented by Michelle. Some discussion followed, but the voting
will be done at the May Banquet after the membership has had a chance to look
at the changes. Michelle will send out an email, and hard copies will be
provided for those members who do not have email or were not present at this
meeting.
The annual disbursement of funds was discussed, which
was difficult because the treasurer was not present. Not knowing how much money is available, it
was the consensus of those present that May would probably be the time to talk
about this when more information is available.
In conjunction with fund dispersal, Lauren announced that
May 17th is Msgr. Gerry’s 40th Anniversary. He has indicated that he would like to wait
until we are in the new church to celebrate and wishes to make it a family
event involving brother priests to concelebrate a special Mass, and a reception
involving all parishioners. This probably couldn’t happen until October so we
still have time to plan. The Pastoral Council has already discussed plans and
there will be more information at a later date. Some discussion ensued as to
what the Guild could do besides facilitate a potluck finger food reception. The
question of funding was discussed with no real decision made.
The meeting closed with a prayer led by Elaine Giacomo.
Respectfully submitted,
Sue Koziell, Recording Secretary
