Minutes - 2010/2

Divine Mercy Women’s Guild

Business Meeting
February 8, 2010

6:30pm: Opening prayer lead by Vi Despres

Lenten Small Christian Community Program: Chris Falcone spoke to the members about the weekly spiritual group gatherings that take place during Lent. They are held during the day or at night and are either at the church or hosted in a home. If you are interested in hosting or joining a group a sign up sheet was passed around. Please call Chris with any questions you may have.

Recording Secretary: The minutes were accepted as written. The minutes are posted on our blog. http://dmwomensguild.blogspot.com/

Letters of appreciation were sent from Fr. Goggin (Christmas gift) and the Union Congregational Church (cookie tray). Gail Laviolette acknowledged a $100 donation to the Women’s Guild from the Drury family.

Treasurer’s Report: Cheryl Lastrina reported $112 was spent last month on Helping Hands and the calendar ad.

Helping Hands: Supported 2 funeral requests this past month. Joyce Schmidt is very thankful to have Edna Drasbo and Ruth Bohn on board.

Parish Outreach: Linda Caracappa spoke to the Guild about the positive feedback she received from the Giving Tree program.

New Business:
The Mystery Ride dinner will take place on March 8, 2010. A sample menu was given to each member. Please call Denise Long or Beth McGurty to RSVP your choice of entre and dessert. Peterborough area members will meet at 6:15pm in the church parking lot and Bennington area members meet at 6pm in the St. Patrick parking lot for a ride to the mystery restaurant.

A request to purchase a freezer from the Women’s Guild funds was discussed. The 15 cubic foot freezer would be placed in the kitchen of St Peter’s Church. The Guild approved the approximate $500 purchase.

Gail Carron passed around a booklet displaying the alter linens purchased for St. Peter’s Church. The old linens needed to be replaced. A short discussion took place on how our funds should be used to support purchases within the church. Email any ideas you may have to Denise Long or Beth McGurty. A discussion will take place at our next business meeting on April 12, 2010.
Hunger Banquet: Joan Faucher, a St Peter’s parishioner and member of MATS, was our guest speaker this month. The Monadnock Area Transitional Shelter’s (MATS) mission is to provide transitional housing, support and referral services to people who are homeless; to educate our community on issues of homelessness; and to advocate for solutions. Our Parish Outreach program contributes to MATS and this year St. Peter’s is supporting the hunger banquet. It will take place at the Union Congregational Church on March 27th from 6-8pm. Admission is one food item for the food bank. Participants will be divided into 3 groups: given full meals to minimal food of beans and rice representing the needs of the homeless. Jean asked for volunteers to help with the banquet and many members stepped up to help out. Preparations begin at 4:30pm. If interested to help/clean up please call Denise Long or Beth McGurty.

Outreach to the Community: Helen Limina shared her recent confirmation class outreach activity. With help from Linda Caracappa the confirmation class sponsored a community supper in Hancock. Chicken Divine was enjoyed by the participants. Helen suggested the Women’s Guild possibly sponsor a community dinner next February.

Thank You to Vi Despres for the Prayer booklet she gave to all Guild members present at the meeting .

The cookie swap will take place at the end of the meeting.

Closing prayer: led by Vi Despres
7:31pm: Meeting adjourned
