Minutes 2015/03

Divine Mercy Women’s Guild –February 9, 2015

The meeting was called to order by President Michele Urban at 6:40 with 15 members present.

Prayer Advisor Elaine Giacomo led a short prayer service dedicated to the Holy Family.

After a brief review by Janice McKenzie, the minutes from the November meeting were approved as printed on the blog.  There was no meeting in January due to weather, so November‘s minutes were the last ones written.
Yvonne Murray reported she sent out two sympathy cards, and received six thank you cards.

Treasurer Karen Bannister reported a bank balance of $11,534.46 as of December 31, 2014.  Receipts from the Fair totaled $5047.50 with expenses of $834.65.  There are still some expenses to be deducted, but as of now the profit from the Fair totals $4212.85.

New Business:
Janice McKenzie suggested that we should think about not meeting in January and February due to the darkness and weather conditions that often force the meetings to be cancelled, or attendance to be low.  She suggested extending the year through June or July instead when the weather is better.  The only restriction in the constitution and by-laws is that the Guild must have two meetings/year and the only change that would have to be made is when the new officers are inducted.  After much discussion, Janice moved that we extend the meeting year to include a June meeting and amend the constitution and by-laws to have the second bi-annual meeting held in June instead of May. Elaine seconded, and the motion passed.

Dates for the spring receptions were announced and volunteers asked to chair the events.

               1.  Confirmation – April 13th – Karen Ayers and Yvonne Murray, co-chairmen

The regular April meeting of the Guild will be held April 20th due to the conflict.

               2.  First Communion – May 3rd – Helen Limina, chairman

               3.  Baccalaureate Event – June 7th – Denise Long, chairman

A Nominating Committee was formed consisting of Beth McGurty, Cheryl Lastrina, and possibly Kathy Sullivan to find candidates for President, Vice-President, and Treasurer.

Old Business:
Mystery Dinner.  Denise continued to take reservations and money for the dinner Scheduled for March 9th.

Karen spoke about the Blood Drive held December 12th which was very successful taking in 69 pints.

Helen Limina spoke about the Community Supper in Hancock on April 23rd.  It will be the same format as last year and an email will be sent out to solicit apple crisp and bread/rolls and people to cook, set-up, serve, and clean up.  It was suggested that we ask the Knights if they would be willing to help with the set up and break down of tables and chairs.

Sue Koziell reported that the Guild’s Christmas Tree entry in Peterborough’s Holiday Tree event was a success, taking the “Most Holiday Spirit” ribbon. A picture of the tree was passed around.  Thank you to Lauren Martin, Beth McGurty, Denise Long, Ginny Chevlier and Sue Koziell for putting this together.

Elaine Giacomo closed the meeting with a prayer and delicious refreshments provided by Cheryl Lastrina and Janice McKensie were enjoyed by all.

Respectfully submitted
Sue Koziell, Secretary
