Katie Kachavos spoke to the Women’s Guild regarding the removal and re-planting of some of the current plants and shrubs at St Peters including two Japanese Maple trees. She is concerned that when the church is demolished, plants will be lost and she would like to create a memorial garden using plants from St Peter’s, temporarily planting them somewhere in the cemetery next to the church with the possibility of a future move to Divine Mercy. Roots would need to be protected when moving the trees and she would need help from someone who is familiar with transplanting but she was convinced it should and could be accomplished successfully.

Minutes 2015/04

Divine Mercy Women’s Guild – April 20, 2015

The meeting was called to order by President Michelle Urban at 6:45, with 15 members present.

In Prayer Advisor Elaine Giacomo’s absence, Lauren Martin led the members in saying the Parish Prayer.

Ballots for the 2015 Ethel Cavanaugh Award were passed out and the membership given an opportunity to vote.

There were two corrections made to the Recording Secretary’s report, which was then accepted.

Corresponding Secretary, Yvonne Murray, reported sending out two Mass/sympathy cards, a get well card, and a birthday card with $50.00 to Msgr.Gerry.

Joyce Schmidt reported that Helping Hands had provided a reception after the Benoit funeral, and that although the reception after the Madeja funeral was not being held in the parish hall, the Guild was providing desserts for the reception elsewhere.  Janice McKensie commented that it was nice that we were able to help out with receptions at home or elsewhere, not just at the church.

Karen Bannister, Treasurer, was not present so there was no treasurer’s report.

Old Business:
Denise Long spoke about the May Banquet to be held Monday, May 11th, 2015 at 6pm at Bass Hall. It will be catered by Roy’s Market.  She asked that members sign up at this meeting, or call or email her to sign up.

Volunteers for the Community Supper in Hancock on April 23rd, organized by Helen Limina, were confirmed. These included women to setup from 12-2:00, preparation from 4-5:00, serving from 5:30-6:30, clean up beginning at 6:00, and baking of breads and desserts.

The First Communion Reception on May 3rd is at 1:00, coordinated by Helen Limina.  She will call those who signed up previously to confirm.

A conflict has occurred with regard to the Baccalaureate Event scheduled for June 7th.  The Senior Class trip is scheduled for that same weekend, but it was uncertain how many graduates we have this year and whether they are going on the trip. Lauren Martin will call to get the list and let Michelle know.  Denise Long, coordinator of the event, was thinking of french toast/sausages/fruit similar to what the Guild did last year.

The Nominating Committee proposed the following slate of officers for the 2015-2016 year:
               President – Sue Koziell
               Vice President – Lauren Martin
               Recording Secretary – Grace Hartman
               Corresponding Secretary – Yvonne Murray
               Treasurer – Beth McGurty
Karen Ayers moved, seconded by Janice McKensie, that the slate be accepted. The motion passed.  The officers will be installed at the May luncheon.

New Business:
The annual Plant Sale coordinated by Jean Frechette will be held on Saturday May 23rd at the Peterborough Community Center. Plants can be dropped off beside the church before the sale and will be moved to the PCC Friday night.  Help is available to dig plants if needed by contacting Jean or Denise.  Edna Drasba commented that the Hancock Dump has many pots for the taking and she and Jean will get together to get them.  Jean will email for helpers as time gets closer as volunteers are needed to move plants Friday night, and to set up and sell during the day on Saturday.  Denise moved, seconded by Karen, that money brought in by the sale be used for the kitchen in the new church.  It was passed.

The wording for the Constitution/By-law change to facilitate revamping the Guild’s meeting schedule as discussed at the February meeting was presented by Michelle. Some discussion followed, but the voting will be done at the May Banquet after the membership has had a chance to look at the changes. Michelle will send out an email, and hard copies will be provided for those members who do not have email or were not present at this meeting.

The annual disbursement of funds was discussed, which was difficult because the treasurer was not present.  Not knowing how much money is available, it was the consensus of those present that May would probably be the time to talk about this when more information is available.

In conjunction with fund dispersal, Lauren announced that May 17th is Msgr. Gerry’s 40th Anniversary.  He has indicated that he would like to wait until we are in the new church to celebrate and wishes to make it a family event involving brother priests to concelebrate a special Mass, and a reception involving all parishioners. This probably couldn’t happen until October so we still have time to plan. The Pastoral Council has already discussed plans and there will be more information at a later date. Some discussion ensued as to what the Guild could do besides facilitate a potluck finger food reception. The question of funding was discussed with no real decision made.

The meeting closed with a prayer led by Elaine Giacomo.

Minutes 2015/03

Divine Mercy Women’s Guild –February 9, 2015

The meeting was called to order by President Michele Urban at 6:40 with 15 members present.

Prayer Advisor Elaine Giacomo led a short prayer service dedicated to the Holy Family.

After a brief review by Janice McKenzie, the minutes from the November meeting were approved as printed on the blog.  There was no meeting in January due to weather, so November‘s minutes were the last ones written.
Yvonne Murray reported she sent out two sympathy cards, and received six thank you cards.

Treasurer Karen Bannister reported a bank balance of $11,534.46 as of December 31, 2014.  Receipts from the Fair totaled $5047.50 with expenses of $834.65.  There are still some expenses to be deducted, but as of now the profit from the Fair totals $4212.85.

New Business:
Janice McKenzie suggested that we should think about not meeting in January and February due to the darkness and weather conditions that often force the meetings to be cancelled, or attendance to be low.  She suggested extending the year through June or July instead when the weather is better.  The only restriction in the constitution and by-laws is that the Guild must have two meetings/year and the only change that would have to be made is when the new officers are inducted.  After much discussion, Janice moved that we extend the meeting year to include a June meeting and amend the constitution and by-laws to have the second bi-annual meeting held in June instead of May. Elaine seconded, and the motion passed.

Dates for the spring receptions were announced and volunteers asked to chair the events.

               1.  Confirmation – April 13th – Karen Ayers and Yvonne Murray, co-chairmen

The regular April meeting of the Guild will be held April 20th due to the conflict.

               2.  First Communion – May 3rd – Helen Limina, chairman

               3.  Baccalaureate Event – June 7th – Denise Long, chairman

A Nominating Committee was formed consisting of Beth McGurty, Cheryl Lastrina, and possibly Kathy Sullivan to find candidates for President, Vice-President, and Treasurer.

Old Business:
Mystery Dinner.  Denise continued to take reservations and money for the dinner Scheduled for March 9th.

Karen spoke about the Blood Drive held December 12th which was very successful taking in 69 pints.

Helen Limina spoke about the Community Supper in Hancock on April 23rd.  It will be the same format as last year and an email will be sent out to solicit apple crisp and bread/rolls and people to cook, set-up, serve, and clean up.  It was suggested that we ask the Knights if they would be willing to help with the set up and break down of tables and chairs.

Sue Koziell reported that the Guild’s Christmas Tree entry in Peterborough’s Holiday Tree event was a success, taking the “Most Holiday Spirit” ribbon. A picture of the tree was passed around.  Thank you to Lauren Martin, Beth McGurty, Denise Long, Ginny Chevlier and Sue Koziell for putting this together.

Elaine Giacomo closed the meeting with a prayer and delicious refreshments provided by Cheryl Lastrina and Janice McKensie were enjoyed by all.
